According to Last.fm, these were my ten most listened to tracks over the past week:
Mysteries We Understand - Sophie B. Hawkins
Summer Sunshine - The Corrs
Let Me Let You Know - P!nk
In This City - Iglu & Hartly
Universe & U - KT Tunstall
I'll Never Get Over You Getting Over Me - Expose
Opin Wide (featuring DJ Jay-Ski) - Mountain Brothers
The Movement - KRS-One
Only You - 112
Foundations - Kate Nash
I can literally not go through a day without hearing at least one Sublime song on KROQ-FM in Los Angeles. This is remarkable considering that Sublime's last studio album was released in 1996, a few months after lead singer Bradley Nowell overdosed on drugs in a hotel room. I don't really know why they are still immensely popular, but I will never deny they were a groundbreaking rock band. They're probably best known for incorporating elements of reggae and hiphop into rock, and this combination was revolutionary in the early 1990s. One of their biggest influences was rapper KRS-One, who was one of the first rappers to incorporate reggae into hiphop.
How do I know that Sublime liked KRS-One? Because they wrote a song called KRS-One. which, as far as I know, is the only rock song to ever pay tribute to a rapper.
