Don't Be Cruel

see relatedStarbucks Story Tuesday: Shots to the Dome
After the long three-day weekend it was pretty darn difficult for me to get out of bed. I was half-asleep all while getting dressed and groomed for work, and I looked forward to my morning cup of Starbucks coffee to wake me up.
Ingrid was working at Starbucks this morning, and Ingrid isn’t exactly the first person you want to see in the morning. Her voice is loud, she never smiles, and her personality is kind of abrasive. I’ve come to know that she’s a perfectly nice woman, although it takes a while for you to warm up to her. I’m used to her, but this morning I wasn’t in the mood to listen to her booming voice because I’m kind of cranky when I’m really groggy.
I got to the register and, as usual, ordered a coffee with a shot of espresso. Ingrid asked (without smiling), “SO HOW WAS YOUR WEEKEND?”
Ingrid had never made morning small talk with me before, and today was not a good day for her to start. “It was fantastic. How was yours?” I asked.
“NO, ANGIE, WE NEED A BACON, NOT A SAUSAGE, FOR MELISSA, OK?” she yelled at someone near the oven. She turned her attention back to me and barked, “I HAD TO WORK ALL WEEKEND.”
Her voice pierced my skull and rang my brain. She was giving me a headache. “You know what,” I said. “Make that two shots, please.”
“I ALREADY TOLD YOU WE DON’T NEED THE SAUSAGE!” she yelled again at that same person. “SORRY ABOUT THAT. DID YOU SAY TWO SHOTS?”
Stop yelling at me. “Actually, make that four.”
“FOUR? ROUGH MORNING, HUH?”
“Like you wouldn’t believe,” I shook my head.
Jeez.
